The table shows the evolution of the average cost of personnel in the top twenty companies in the field of local public transport (LPT) from 2014 to 2023, compared with the ISTAT index of consumer prices for the families of workers and employees (FOI).

The analysis of the period 2014-2023 shows that the average cost of personnel in the field of local public transport (LPT) in Italy has generally followed the trend of inflation is cumulative, that is attested to +18.6% against the increase in the average cost of +7.9 per cent. Most of the companies operating in the sector has not applied salary increases proportionate to the growth in the cost of living, resulting in a compression of the wage in real terms. This phenomenon is partly diluted for the effect of staff turnover, which tends to lower the average cost.

This general trend highlights the need for a review of the contractual dynamics in the context of national collective bargaining. The renewal of the contract is, therefore, the negotiations is crucial to address the discrepancies in pay and provide a fair wage adjustment with respect to the trend in the cost of living.
